PTC Market Trends™
Structural developments shaping the retail proprietary trading industry.
This page describes structural market patterns observed in current data. It does not measure growth, momentum or decline: those require comparable historical observations that PTC does not yet publish. Each module below states the snapshot it reads, and different datasets carry different observation dates.
Market at a glance
Categories sum to 306 of 306 active tracked firms.
Structural market patterns
Futures is a substantial segment alongside a larger forex universe
Of 306 active tracked firms, 228 are classified forex-oriented and 53 futures-oriented. The two segments run on different infrastructure and different funding structures, and PTC models them as separate universes.
No single infrastructure stack covers the industry
107 distinct trading platforms are observed across 258 firms with identified platform data. The most widely observed platform, MetaTrader 5, appears at 36.8% of that covered cohort — forex and futures segments rely on different stacks.
Domestic prop ecosystems exist at very different stages
Brazil has an established, distinct domestic ecosystem anchored to its local exchange environment. India, Southeast Asia and Sub-Saharan Africa show varying degrees of domestic formation against markets that remain predominantly served by international firms. These are published qualitative research findings, not measured growth.
Demand landscape
Leading demand region: —.
- Branded search demand measures search interest in tracked firm brands. It is a demand signal, not a transaction record.
- Search demand is not industry revenue.
- Search demand is not an active trader count.
- Search demand is not market share.
Demand versus adoption
Total measured branded search volume.
Measured demand relative to population.
The two lenses answer different questions. Large absolute-demand markets and high per-capita adoption markets are frequently not the same countries — the Adoption Index normalizes the same measured demand by population rather than introducing a new score.
Geographic structure
A firm's stated headquarters or incorporation jurisdiction describes where the company is registered — not where its traders are. Measured trader demand is recorded across 0 countries, while classified headquarters resolve to 0 jurisdictions. Reading one as a proxy for the other is the single most common error in prop-industry market analysis.
- Headquarters location — stated registration or operating jurisdiction of the firm.
- Trader demand location — country where branded search demand for firms is measured.
Platform landscape
Adoption rates are shares of the 258 firms with identified platform data (of 309 tracked firms, 83.5% coverage), read from 1,293 published plans carrying platform information. This is current observed adoption; PTC does not publish platform change over time.
Regional structure
Distinct domestic ecosystem anchored to the local B3 futures environment, operating alongside international firms.
Demand distributed across several Spanish-language markets, served predominantly by international firms.
Large measured demand market served predominantly by international firms, with an emerging domestic ecosystem.
Internationally dominated region with geographically isolated domestic formation across separate national markets.
UAE-centred headquarters cluster, with substantial measured demand located elsewhere in the region.
Large demand market served predominantly by international firms, with limited domestic firm presence.
Internationally served market with early domestic formation and fragmented payment and regulatory infrastructure.
Regional characterisations are published analyst assessments drawn from PTC Regional Intelligence pages. They describe current market structure, not measured growth or ranked opportunity.
What PTC is seeing
The current prop trading market is characterised less by one universal story than by several simultaneous structural conditions: international firms serving demand measured across 0 countries, stronger localization requirements in language, payments and regional presence, distinct forex and futures ecosystems running on different infrastructure, firm headquarters concentrated in a small set of jurisdictions, and domestic prop ecosystems that exist at very different stages of formation across regions.
This is an analyst reading of the datasets above. It is not a score, not a forecast, and not investment advice. Where PTC lacks comparable historical observations, no directional claim is made.
Data limitations
Market Trends combines datasets with different observation periods and different coverage levels. The modules above are not a single synchronized measurement.
- Current snapshots do not establish historical growth. Nothing on this page measures change over time.
- Search demand measures branded search interest in tracked firms — not revenue, trader counts or market share.
- Firm geography depends on available stated headquarters information; firms without usable location data are excluded from the classified denominator, never assigned.
- Platform adoption reflects only firms with identified platform data in published plans, and is reported against that coverage denominator.
- PTC Estimates are model outputs produced under disclosed methodologies. They are not audited industry totals.
- Qualitative regional findings are analyst assessments based on published PTC research evidence.
