Who Leads the Global Prop Trading Industry?
October 2026 Rankings & Industry Intelligence · FTMO, Topstep, the Growth Index and the latest market developments.

The big picture
The global retail prop trading industry has no single leader. The answer depends on whether we measure overall competitive strength, market visibility or recent growth.
PropTradeCenter.com tracks 412 active prop trading firms. Its October research identifies different leaders in three indexes—and a clear distinction between long-established strength and fresh momentum.
FTMO leads overall. But why?
FTMO ranks #1 in the October PTC Power Index, scoring 85.8, ahead of FundedNext, The 5%ers, Funding Pips and Topstep. The Power Index considers several dimensions of competitive position, not simply brand size or sales.
FTMO has an established trading brand and strong credibility indicators, while expanding into adjacent services. It completed its acquisition of OANDA in December 2025 and launched FTMO Futures on 17 September 2026.
The futures launch is new, but FTMO's leadership predates it. Its broader operating history and competitive profile matter more than any single product announcement. Futures offers another path for expansion, although its business contribution cannot yet be measured from these rankings.

Topstep leads Market Presence
Topstep ranks #1 in PTC Market Presence with 93.9, narrowly ahead of FundedNext (93.6). FTMO, Apex Trader Funding and Funding Pips complete the top five. The index reflects public visibility and market footprint—not audited revenue or market share.
Topstep's position fits its integrated futures ecosystem: the TopstepX platform, trader education, community and live content. The company announced Topstep Brokerage in January, with customer trading publicly documented by spring.
Some traders may also have discovered Topstep following the earlier ProjectX platform disruption. That took place months before October, however, so it is not a sufficient explanation for Topstep's continuing lead. Its brokerage expansion adds a long-term strategic opportunity, not yet a measurable contribution to this ranking.
Behind the Growth: five different stories
October's Growth Index reveals a different set of leaders: Funded Futures Family (#1), FuturesElite (#2), Velotrade (#3), The 5%ers (#4) and Shark Funded (#5). Their results reflect different combinations of searches, Google visibility and customer review activity.
Funded Futures Family leads with strong growth across all three measures. In September it introduced S2F Accelerate, a Straight-to-Funded simulated account allowing traders to skip the evaluation stage. The launch may have helped attract attention, though the data cannot prove the cause.
FuturesElite recorded rising search visibility alongside changes to its instant-account offering. Velotrade posted particularly strong gains in estimated Google search visibility, while The 5%ers more than doubled its estimated organic visibility and expanded into single-stock futures.
Shark Funded saw an almost 48% increase in searches for its name, while its public review count grew by only 2.4%. More people were looking for the firm, but review activity did not rise at the same rate.
PTC updated its Growth Index calculation in October, so its rankings cannot be directly compared with September. Growth measures momentum, not firm quality or reliability.

Industry in numbers
PropTradeCenter.com's October models estimate 2.15 million active traders, approximately 193,000 funded traders and a $188.6 million monthly payout run-rate. That payout pace equates to roughly $2.26 billion annualized.
These are modeled estimates for a 207-firm cohort, not audited totals across all 412 firms tracked by PropTradeCenter.com. They should not be read as verified payments or an exact count of unique traders.

Three developments to watch
1. FundedNext Futures Direct. FundedNext now offers a direct-access futures product without a standard evaluation phase or firm-set profit target. Drawdown, payout and other trading conditions still apply. Skipping an evaluation does not mean trading without rules.
2. Goat Funded Trader restricts VPS and VPN use. Effective 6 October, the firm prohibited VPSs, VPNs and other hosted environments during trading, with a narrow first-login exception. Traders using algorithms or remote machines should verify each firm's rules before placing trades.
3. MyFundedFutures launches Studio. Its limited-time Studio #001 and #002 evaluations feature fixed maximum loss limits, no daily loss limit and the ability to request payouts when eligible. These plans illustrate the increasingly varied structures offered to futures traders.
What we're watching next
The October picture highlights three trends: established firms moving beyond conventional challenges, newer firms competing through simplified accounts, and trading rules becoming a more important part of selecting a firm.
PropTradeCenter.com will continue tracking rankings, product changes, closures and payout evidence. The next Research & Market Monitor edition will examine the most important developments in greater detail.
